Mothers Are Like Spring Flowers: A Mother’s Day Tribute

With the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, Mother Earth prepares a colorful show of foliage and flowers. Spring, the season of renewal and rebirth. No wonder we celebrate Mother’s Day in May!
Although the founder of Mother’s Day, Anna Jarvis, ended up having great regrets about creating a day to honor Mom, Mother’s Day is now firmly associated with the spring season – a time of growth, beauty, and gentle strength just like the mothers we celebrate!
Spring flowers don’t bloom overnight; blooming is a very gradual process taking several days to weeks to fully flower. Like spring flowers, the role of mom isn’t earned through the single act of delivering a baby. Mothers bloom with grace through long days and nights, countless challenges, and unseen sacrifices to grow a life of love around them. The often undervalued labor of mothers – whether it’s in the form of paid or unpaid work – is critical to keep homes, communities and the nation running.

And like spring flowers, each mother is unique and beautiful. From the bold tulip to the delicate lily of the valley, spring flowers bring something special to the landscape. No two are the same – some loud and full of laughter while others are gentle and soft-spoken. Some are traditional, others wildly creative. But each has a way of making the world a brighter place just by being herself.
While flowers dazzle us with their blooms their strength lies in their roots. Sounds a lot like mom, right? Moms are the roots of the family. They ground us and hold us steadily, feeding our souls to help us grow. They create a sense of home out of warmth, comfort, and care.

And mom’s love always finds a way to shine through. Just like how a flower will bloom through a crack in the sidewalk, mothers carry a quiet resilience no matter the environment or pressure they face. Whether through words of encouragement, a simple home cooked meal, or a comforting hug, mothers give without keeping score. They find a way to bloom and help others bloom too.

This spring let’s celebrate the flowers in our lives. Every time you see a beautiful flower think of the mothers in your life. Maybe it’s your mom, grandmother, a sister, or a friend, each one is a flower blooming with love, rooted in strength and worthy of all the sunshine we can give.
So, here’s to all the spring flowers in human form! May we honor them, cherish, and let them know just how deeply they are loved on Mother’s Day and every day of the year.
