Hello January, Forget the Cold and Ice, there’s a lot to love about this month!!!
“In January it’s so nice while slipping on the sliding ice to sip hot chicken soup with rice. Sipping once, sipping twice”
Maurice Sendak
January! A fresh start! A new year! Even though it can be cold and dark outside, there’s a lot to love about January (even if it’s not the weather)!
A Month for Self-Reflection
For one, January is a month for resolutions. It’s is a time for renewal and a break from behaviors like over-spending, overeating or over-drinking. There’s no denying that January is a self-reflective month, so, even if we skip the resolution, we will at least reflect on the past year and think about what we could be doing better in the new one. What can be wrong with that?! But if you do make resolutions and are not sure if you’ll keep yours, then celebrate “Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day” on January 17th and heck… you’re almost there!
January is Chill
And, not just outside your door, apparently! If you are January baby then you are pretty easy to get along with. We found it fascinating to learn that studies show that people born in the winter months are less irritable and less prone to mood swings than people born in other seasons (OMG, for those of us born in other seasons, one more thing to blame on our parents…!).
“Cozy” is the Word of the Month
Opposite the hustle and bustle of December holidays, January can be a very cozy time of year. We love snow days, reading by the fire and baking cookies to heat up the kitchen. A weekend with nothing to do but sip something hot and binge a favorite show? YES!
January Food is Different than July Food
We swap out light salads and cold watermelon for the warmth of soups and stews. Kale and other greens make room for root veggies on our plates and we crave heavier comfort foods after slogging through a slushy commute. Is there a better time of year for National Soup Month than January?
January is Not Cold… Everywhere
In the northern hemisphere January is cold, in some places it’s the coldest month of the year. But, in the southern hemisphere it’s summer. People in the southern hemisphere are saying “Ahhhhh, January!” How hard is it to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve when it’s 70 degrees outside? Just sit back and think about that for a minute all of you Chionophobics out there.
Wearing Socks During Sex is OK
If wearing socks to bed causes your mate to frown, don’t worry – January is the perfect month to get away with it. According to a 2003 study on arousal, women enjoyed an orgasm 80% more with socks on. It appears that women are more likely to orgasm if their feet are warm! Hmmm… And all these years it’s mostly men who are given socks as presents!
Let’s keep the good vibes going for January. Tell us what you love about January or something that happened in a January that made you smile.
